Dr Abhirup Lobo has recently commenced practice in Orthopaedic Surgery specifically trauma surgery and Hand, Wrist and Peripheral Nerve Surgery.
Dr Lobo has completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery and Bachelor of Medical Science at the University of Melbourne in 2009. He graduated with second class honours and completed his internship and residency at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Dr Lobo completed his specialist training in Orthopaedic Surgery via the Newcastle Training Program. He was honoured to be awarded Training Registrar of the Year Award and also elected to be the Senior Registrar leading our team of 47 registrars and senior residents.
In 2021, Dr Lobo practiced in regional Victoria as an Orthopaedic surgeon in various locations including Shepparton, Mildura and Horsham before returning to Melbourne to start his first Hand and Wrist Surgery Fellowship at St Vincent’s Hospital. Following this, his next fellowship was with Dr Jeff Ecker in Perth, who is a world-renowned wrist arthroscopist and hand surgeon. His third fellowship was undertaken at Wrightington Hospital, UK with two world leaders in surgery Dr Sumedh Talwalkar, who is the future British Hand Society President, and Mr CY Ng, an expert and leader in peripheral nerve and brachial plexus surgery.
Dr Lobo is now a staff specialist practicing Hand, Wrist and Peripheral Nerve Surgery with public appointments at Eastern Health and Latrobe Regional Health. He has a passion for teaching and research, and has published articles in the ANZ Journal of Surgery and Journal of Hand Surgery.
Dr Abhirup Lobo is skilled in the management of all hand, wrist, elbow and peripheral nerve conditions. He is also proficient in traumatic conditions of the limbs.
