Dr Chandika Wewelwala

Dr Chandika Wewelwala is a breast and general surgeon who specialises in the treatment of breast cancer and a wide range of acute and elective general surgical conditions such as gallbladder disease, hernia, pilonidal disease and a variety of skin lumps and skin cancers. He utilises minimally invasive (keyhole) procedures when appropriate, such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic hernia repair. Dr Wewelwala also obtained recognition by the Gastroenterology Society of Australia (GESA) as a certified colonoscopist in 2020.

Completing his accredited surgical training at Monash Health Victoria, Dr Wewelwala obtained the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2020. Following this, he completed two further years of subspecialised training under the BreastSurgANZ, the peak body governing accreditation and training of breast surgeons in Australia and New Zealand.
During his first year of post-fellowship training, he worked at the Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand. This experience gave him excellent exposure to various breast surgeries and helped develop his expertise in extensive general surgical procedures. He also developed skills in managing a variety of skin cancers during this period. Dr Wewelwala then returned to Monash Health as a breast surgical oncology fellow to complete the accredited training in breast surgery and gained expertise in complex breast surgical procedures. He can now offer the latest surgical management services for breast cancer and other related diseases.

Dr Wewelwala has public appointments at Monash Health, Warragul Hosptial and Wonthaggi Hospital.

 

 

Mr Justin James

Mr. Justin James offers individualised, expert, specialist surgical care for breast and endocrine conditions. He is passionate about personalised care for his patients and the fight against breast cancer. He offers prompt assessment of symptoms and help curate a treatment plan tailored to meet individual needs.

Since 2019, Dr James has been practicing Breast and Endocrine Surgery. His public appointments are at Eastern Health and Goulburn Valley Health.

CREDENTIALS: Justin completed specialist general surgical training at Monash Health and obtained the Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) fellowship in 2014. In subsequent years, he received his post-fellowship breast and endocrine surgery training at Monash Health, Royal Perth Hospital, Eastern Health (Melbourne), and Robina Hospital (Gold Coast).

AREAS OF SPECIALISATION: Breast Surgery: Dr James performs modern oncoplastic breast surgery. Oncoplastic breast surgery is a breast surgical care technique that incorporates aesthetic and effective cancer surgery principles to optimise the quality of life after cancer treatment. Endocrine Surgery: He can offer comprehensive assessment and care of all thyroid and parathyroid gland-related surgical conditions. General Surgery: He can also offer prompt specialist care for common general surgical conditions, such as skin lesions, abdominal wall (hernia), and gall bladder diseases.

Breast & General Surgeon

Chere is an Australian trained Surgeon who has a long-term commitment to providing specialist General and Breast Surgery services to regional Australians.

Chere obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Flinders University in 2007 and trained in General Surgery at Monash Health. Chere was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in General Surgery in 2018.

Chere has completed an Emergency and General Surgery Fellowship in Regional Victoria. During this Fellowship she was a Deakin University lecturer, steering committee member for the Sepsis Collaboration and commenced a Masters of Breast Surgery. In 2019 she commenced Breast Cancer subspecialty training (BreastSurgANZ) at the Royal Melbourne and Royal Women’s Hospital.

Chere is involved in clinic research and is currently a principle investigator for a clinical trial in Magseed localisation for Breast Cancer Surgery, intern supervisor for Breast Surgery Services and works as a Consultant Surgeon at West Gippsland Hospital & operated at Maryvale Private Hospital. Chere is GESA accredited.

Chere provides specialisation in breast, general and emergency surgery to the local Gippsland community.

In her spare time, she enjoys her cattle farm with her young family in Neerim South.

Mr Paul Strauss

Paul is a General Surgeon with a particular interest in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, breast surgery and other aspects of general surgery including laparoscopic, cholecystectomy, laparoscopic appendectomy and laparoscopic incisional and groin hernia repairs.

Consultant Surgeon

Mr Nair studied Medicine in India and then attained surgical fellowship from both India and UK. He then worked as a consultant surgeon in India and then in Dubai, UAE.

After moving to New Zealand where he worked for 8 years, he moved to Northern Territory and worked as a senior consultant in Alice Springs for 7 years attaining fellowship from Australasian
College of Surgeons. Radha was most recently the Head of Unit of Surgery at CGHS, Sale from 2019 – February 2025.

Mr Nair has a broad spectrum of surgical expertise in breast, thyroid, melanoma/skin cancers, colon/bowel surgery, laparoscopic surgeries, all skin lesions including flaps and grafts, paediatric and adult circumcision, correction of undescended testis, vasectomy, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, varicose vein surgery, hernia surgery, gall bladder removal, hand surgeries like ganglion removal, carpal tunnel release, dupuytrens contracture release, haemorrhoidectomy-open and stapled, fissure and fistula surgeries.

Radha is a teacher and guide for gastroscopy and colonoscopy and performs all interventions including, polyp removal, banding of haemorrhoids, arrest of GI bleeds, endovariceal banding, PEG
tube insertion etc.

Radha is a GESA member and supervisor for trainees.
He is a member of Academy of Surgical Educator of RACS, Member of Surgical Oncology of RACS, mentor for surgical trainees of RACS. He is also credentialed for Gippsland Breast Unit and an active participant of GRICS (multidisciplinary team for cancers). He has many other memberships and credentials.
